There Is Power In The Name Of Jesus
Vintage Faith

Today, I want to share with you the Mighty Power that we have in the Name of Jesus; but, first, how many of you have ever heard of Caterpillar in the construction industry? They’re the leading manufacturer of construction equipment in the world—that includes Hawaii. Caterpillar’s tagline is: Nothing Pulls Like A Big Cat! Their powerful engines are known for reliability and power.

But, there is one name above all names that has more power than Caterpillar, Mack, Mercedes, and all the big names combined—that name is Jesus Christ! His name is known for reliability and power; He builds; is the great equalizer! There is power in the name of Jesus—but you can’t just think about it, you must call it out—say it! JESUS!

A couple of months ago, I was scheduled to speak—I was standing on the side waiting for my turn, feeling very agitated and jittery. I was shaking inside and I tried to shake it out! Malama Vidad, the worship leader, was closing worship and said, “Just say ‘Jesus’.” I thought to myself, “I’m supposed to know that,” so I said, “Jesus, Jesus.” On the first “Jesus” everything calmed down, and all the nervousness disappeared! There is power in the name of Jesus!

The significance of the Name of Jesus has been with us from the beginning; the following are some scriptures that will help us remember who Jesus is:

  • Jesus and the Father are one: John 10:30

  • Jesus is equal with the Father: John 5:17-18

  • Jesus’ authority to judge nations: Matt. 25:31-46

  • Jesus’ authority to raise dead people: John 5:25-29

  • Jesus’ authority to forgive sins: Mark 2:5-7

Proverbs 18:10 NKJV says, “The name of the Lord is like a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”

Solomon was saying that if you put your trust in the Lord, it’s like the protection of a strong tower; Solomon trusted God for his protection. God sent His son Jesus Christ to be our strong tower, our protection.

Solomon related the name of the Lord as his strong tower for three reasons—these are the same three areas that we have power in the Name of Jesus:

1. We Have Healing In Jesus’ Name.

The Bible records 35 healing miracles by Jesus; but a large number of miracles are not even mentioned, as stated in…

John 21:25 NIV says, Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

Jesus is entering Capernaum, a town occupied by Romans and Jews. There’s a Roman centurion (who oversees a hundred soldiers) but there is something different about him, because he loves the Jewish people and had built a church for them. One of his servants is very sick, almost to death, and the centurion knows that Jesus is a healer and has faith in Him so he sends Jewish elders to speak on his behalf…

Luke 7:6-9 NLT says, “So Jesus went with them. But just before they arrived at the house, the officer sent some friends to say, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself by coming to my home, for I am not worthy of such an honor. I am not even worthy to come and meet you. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healedI know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.” When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to the crowd that was following him, he said, “I tell you, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!”

Three things about the centurion: The Jews and the Romans weren’t on good terms and his request might be perceived as arrogant. Also, he really didn’t feel worthy to stand in the presence of Jesus, so he sends the Jewish elders to talk to Jesus on his behalf.

Earlier this year, my mother-in-law passed away. There are three things that stood out about Maggie: her incredible faith, her fighting will to stay alive, and her tremendous love for Jesus. She had suffered from multiple ailments and needed a blood transfusion. We prayed that Jesus would help us. Even through the darkest of times, the Lord is with us. I told Maggie to find that sweet spot in Jesus: Jesus is always faithful even when you’re faithless; Jesus is with you when you are whole, and even when you’re broken…

Psalm 48:14, NIV says, “For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end.”

Maggie called me when I was in New York just to tell me how much she loves me and that Jesus loves her. A short time after that she passed away. We have healing power in Jesus’ name, but Maggie wasn’t healed on earth—she will be in heaven with Him! I will continue to pray for miracles until God trumps my prayer for a miracle—God is shaping us down here to get us ready to go up there!

Application: Jesus promised that when we lay hands on the sick they shall recover; I will pray for healing and contend for miracles until God steps in and trumps my prayer.

2. We Have Authority In Jesus’ Name.

Luke 4:41 NIV says, “Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, ‘You are the Son of God!’ But He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Messiah/Christ.”

Even the demons know who Jesus is today. The attack by the enemy isn’t a sneak attack. How do you win against a roaring lion? You don’t run; you resist, according to...

James 4:7 NIV, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Stand your ground with Christ. He will protect you; alone you don’t stand a chance. In our Community Care office, we get calls twice a month for house blessings. About 95 percent of the callers are not from this church; they are non-believers, or say they have spooks running around their house. People are more likely to believe in the devil than in Jesus Christ!

Application: Always fill yourself with Jesus; we need Jesus. Drink in the word of God—the more you fill yourself with Jesus, the more rubbish will start to leave you. Replace the junk with Jesus—go back to Jesus. The authority we have in Jesus is that He is in our hearts and in this place.

3.We Have Victory In Jesus’ Name.

Romans 8:38-39 NIV says, “38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

This scripture reminds me of Moses when he sends 12 spies to check out the land of Canaan. Even before they went to spy out the land, God said He has already given it to them—it’s a done deal! But they come back miffed and filled with fear; but Joshua and Caleb come back with a positive report.

Numbers 14:6-8 NIV says, “Joshua…tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, ‘The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.’”

Do not die outside of your destiny. Do not let fear get in the way of your future. God is with you even in this very moment. He’s with you when you’re right and even when you’re wrong. God is with you when you’re faithful and when you’re not. Do not fear failure or what people may think.

No matter how big the problem, how hopeless the sickness, how powerful the demons, they’re all under Jesus’ feet. My desire for you is that you experience the mighty power of Jesus’ name.

The victory is yours; God is with you—claim it!

God is showing you a new order of importance and will shift your priorities!

Feelings don’t prove the presence of God. What proves the presence of God is when my priorities start to align with His.

Matthew 28:20 NKJV says, “…teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18 NIV says, "Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.’”

Matthew 28:19 NIV says, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Application: Go, preach, and make disciples of all nations. There is power in the name of Jesus; when we simply claim and declare it, there is healing in His name. We have authority, healing and victory in Jesus’ name—that will definitely change your life!

Questions:

  1. How will you find ways to align yourself with Jesus?

  2. What are examples in your life that shows your trust in Jesus?

  3. How can you say Jesus’ name more often in your daily lives?

  4. What does it mean that there is power in the name of Jesus?

  5. How will you affect others to align themselves with Jesus?
