In my evil, I call on Jesus

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the LORD. Genesis 4:26

Observation

It’s interesting that Enosh’s name refers to humanity, weakness - a variation of Enos which means mortal man, sick or despaired of. I’m not sure of the lifestyle or testimony of Enosh, but his name depicts time where people began to call upon the name of Yahweh.

If people were like Lamech, Cain’s descendant, who was far more vengeful than Cain (3:23-24) - then wickedness must have been prevalent. No different - nothing new under the sun….right?

Application

My personal application is my evaluation of my own heart and soul - of any sickness within me. The thoughts of evil, vengeance, wanting to be “one up” on others… is just plain evil! Enosh’s name describes me - human, weak, vulnerable to despair.

I’m thankful that in the traps of my own wickedness, I’m able to call upon the name of Yahweh. My help, my everything relating to redemption, forgiveness, victory comes from Him! Even in the middle of my wicked, evil thoughts, ways…I call on Jesus. I must to survive and overcome. I’m honored to call on His name - for HIs grace is so abundant!

Prayer

Thank you Jesus. I call upon the name of the Lord for ongoing salvation! I am saved and being saved…to become more like You! I Love You Jesus! I can’t believe it - even in the middle of my very own wicked and evil… I can come to and call on You!
