You Both are One!
Rod ShimabukuroSo Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. John 5:19 ESV
One of the messages John is communicating to his audience is Jesus as Messaiah, God incarnate, the Word who became flesh, one with the Father who submits to His Father. The deity of Jesus is a major obstacle for the Jews, yet there is no other remedy for making people right with God - God come in the flesh.
[21] For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. [22] The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, [23] that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. [24] Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. [25] “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. [26] For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. John 5:21-26 ESV
The relationship and roles of the Father and Son:
1. Father raises the dead/Son gives life
2. Father judges no one/Given judgment to Son
3. Honor the Son/Honor the Father
4. Believe in Him (Father) who sent me/hear the voice of the Son of God and live
5. Father has life/granted the Son life
There are passages like the above woven throughout John’s Gospel, communicating the deity of the Messiah.
The union, relationship between the Father and Jesus through John proves their Oneness and Jesus’ deity.
My take away, life application is AWE! Wonder and Worship to my Father and Jesus!
I’m also filled with confidence and hopeful more boldness to speak of His Greatness and Gospel. To build up the body of Christ through teaching and to spread the love of the Father and Jesus to non Christians around me.
Dear Father and Jesus. I’m so thankful for Your Spirit, who is drawing me to know YOU ALL! :) I Love Y’all and ask for boldness to speak of Your love to the lost. There is so much evidence - but I know You need to open the hearts of those I’m witnessing to! Please lead me to be a bold, truthful, loving witness! God I Love You!
