More Than Sacrifice
Calvin KochiHebrews 13:15-16
15Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. 16And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
The Priest was continually offering up sacrifices for the sins of the people, but came to offer Himself as the sacrifice once and for all. We do not have to offer animal sacrifices any more. Jesus is our high priest who has sacrificed for us.
As Christians it can be so easy to forget. Especially when it comes to the price that Christ paid on the cross of Calvary. I am reminded that a heart of gratefulness is pleasing to the Lord. However it is not the kind of gratefulness that is expressed only because the Lord has answered your prayers, or done something for you. What he deserves is that heart of gratefulness that is continual and grateful in all circumstances. It is so much easier to be grateful when thing are going good, but how grateful am I in trials and persecutions. This is where I must continue to remember to continue to do good and to be willing to share of my time and energy with others. It is easier to isolate yourself when thing are not going well.
Lord help me to continue to be grateful in all circumstances, and not neglect doing good and sharing of my time and resources.
