Weak Rod, Strong God!
Rod ShimabukuroAnd he said to him, “Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.” Judges 6:15
The children of Israel find themselves in the same predicament. Idol worship, disobeying the Lord, violating their covenant relationships with God, in sin and in need of repentance and restoration. God calls a man named Gideon. He seems to be insecure about obeying God’s call to save His people form the Midianites. God calls Gideon a mighty man of valor - even when Gideon doesn’t seem to acknowledge nor recognize what God sees in him.
So many Bible characters are like Gideon. So called common folk, who are less than talented, insecure in some ways, with some kind of deficiency or defect in their character or life.
Yup - that be me. Too often, I think of myself as “less than, not confident, wavering, doubtful, pessimistic...” the list goes on...! Like Gideon, I need affirmation from and a few signs from God - that He is really with me. It’s not enough for me (and many Bible greats) to just hear God, encounter Him - and respond with joyful obedience. Help me Lord!
I want to be, believe and live differently. Help me to grow in knowing who You are in Character. Help me to trust You, Your great love and grace!
Less of me, more of You! I am weak, You are strong! I am nothing and can do nothing unless I abide in You and You abide in me. Thank You Lord and King Jesus - for Your great patience and grace! You are so very Kind, Patient, Long Suffering... and so bountiful, abounding in grace!
