Prayer: Where The Mundane Meets The Miraculous

Jon Burgess

Scripture
5But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him. 6The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate.7Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, “Quick! Get up!” And the chains fell off his wrists. Acts 12:5-7
Observation

In Acts 10 Peter prayed and what was God's instructions to him? Get Up. Eat. Answer The Door. Go With Them. All Peter had to do was pray and obey and God did the heavy lifting. God talked to Cornelius. God orchestrated the meeting at Peter's house. God showed the vision three times that changed Peter's heart towards Gentiles. God poured out the Holy Spirit at the house of Cornelius. Peter prayed and was present and God moved in power.

In Acts 12 Peter and the church prayed and what was God's instructions to him? Get Up. Get Dressed. Follow Me. All Peter had to do was pray and obey and God did the heavy lifting. God took the chains from his wrist and led him out without the guards noticing. God led him past the two guard posts and opened the iron gate to the citadel again without anyone noticing. God hand delivered Pete to the front door where the church was praying. Are you seeing the pattern? We pray and obey in the mundane and menial things and God moves in power! What a fantastic partnership!

Application

I can't heal anyone. I can, however, pray and get dressed and walk out ready to agree in prayer for healing. I can't save anyone. I can, however, follow God's leading as I go through my normal day and build relationships with those who need saving. I can't set anyone free from demonic attack. I can, however, enter into a place of intercession on behalf of those who are trapped and stand back to watch God move. Prayer is a partnership of unbelievable possibility. Prayer puts the pressure on God who can more than handle it. Prayer positions me to expect the miraculous in the midst of the mundane and menial tasks that often fill my day. When I obey God in the small things: "Get Up. Eat. Answer The Door. Get Dressed. Follow Me.", I get a front row seat to the Big Things God is about to do!

Prayer

It's the small points of obedience that lead to the biggest breakthroughs! Thank You, Jesus, for this reminder. You are still in the miracle business today. You are simply waiting for Your people to partner with You through prayer. Let the racial divides be healed. Let the depressed be set free. Let the sick and broken be made whole. Let the chains fall and the impossibly strong gates be opened! Let all of this happen when your people pray and obey and let You have Your way!
