Doers Tame Their Tongue

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:7-8

Observation

The instruction of our tongue is a clear, strong warning of it's dangerous and deadly effects. This applies to all readers in James time. But there is an intentional warning to teachers and those who desire to become teachers of the Gospel. There's a danger in communication involving teaching false beliefs or doctrine.

Even in our sinfulness we can tame animals, God's creation, but our very own tongues are untamable. What we can control or rule over is quite different from being able to control and coach our tongues.

Application

I feel, desperately wicked in this area of tongue control. I need more than mouthwash for my stink talk. But it comes from a poisoned, sinful heart. I've made decisions to allow my stinky heart to give in to my stinky thoughts that yield stinky words.

Today I desire all the more to yield my mouth, thoughts, heart...to Jesus...throughout this day. And I'll take it one day at a time. A spiritual mouthwash rinse just won't do. That's temporary. But a spiritual renewal in my heart - I need and repent towards.

Prayer

Holy Daddie, King Jesus and Sweet Spirit.

Please forgive me once again for my unclean heart, impure thoughts and stinky words. My family has received the brutL effects of my sinful and stinky mouth. May I be renewed in heart, mind and words...to speak of Your glory!
