Contend & Conquer
John Tilton2 Timothy 3:14-15
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,15and how from infancyyou have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wisefor salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
I love Paul’s encouragement to Timothy, acknowledging earlier in the chapter of the carnal and sinful nature of man; but that the difference is what one has learned from the Word, and how that can be manifested through faith in Jesus Christ.
There is always a propensity for me to know that when I have sinned, there is a tendency to feel that I am such a sinner, guilty, down trodden and therefore how could God continue to look upon me as saved from my sin. However, through these scriptures, I am reminded that in spite of my sinful and carnal nature, my hope is in Jesus Christ and He alone. That I don’t have to be down trodden of the enemy’s attempt to make me feel guilty and unworthy, but instead know that through Christ it is my intent and perseverance to contend for forgiveness and overcoming my carnal and sinful ways, that I am promised victory and life eternal through Christ Jesus. It is the contending and fighting through what I know in the truths of the Word of God. It is through my contending that I will conquer the carnal ways in me and be victorious in Christ Jesus.
Dear Lord, thank you for reminding me of the hope you Jesus, and that although I am a sinner, I am not to believe the lies of the enemy about the power of you through dying on the cross for my sins. Not only am I forgiven, but I have victory over the spirit of unworthiness.
