Receiving, Revering, Responding
Rod ShimabukuroWhoever despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded. Proverbs 13:13
The commandments given by God, to His people were to be taken, received, revered and lived out seriously. The commands were meant to bring order, instill worship and connect the the children of Israel to God.
There’s a string of proverbs in this chapter that draws my attention to the gift of God’s commands, which is revealed through instruction and teaching.
V 14 - The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.
- There’s WISE teaching.
V 18 - Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is honored.
- The recipient can IGNORE instructions or HEED/OBEY.
v1 - A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.
- A son can HEAR and LISTEN to his fathers instruction, or not.
Reading these verses makes me want to grow in knowing God’s Word - so I can KNOW HIM. Of course I’d love to be a respected, effective, good teacher of His Word. But more than anything - I want to KNOW JESUS. and for that desire...I THANK YOU SPIRIT OF GOD!
I want to be a son who listens and obeys His commands. I don’t want to ignore the promptings/voice of the Holy Spirit during the day. And yes - I want to be a wise teacher - filled with wisdom to make strong disciples of Jesus!
I love You - LIVING WORD of GOD! Thank You Lord Jesus for Your gift of love, poured out by the Spirit in to my heart - to know You - the Godhead 3 in 1! Help me to know, grow in You - to become more like you each day, your, moment at a time! Help me to receive and revere Your Holy Word - and respond in obedience to Your instructions!
