Grumbling Spirit
Richard WaialealeNumbers 14:1-2 (NLT)
1 Then the whole community began weeping aloud, and they cried all night.
2 Their voices rose in a great chorus of protest against Moses and Aaron. “If only we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!” they complained.
Complaining takes our eyes off of Jesus and focuses it on the problem I’m grumbling and complaining about. A good example of this is how Moses faced the people of Israel wanting to go back to Egypt. After all the miracles that God performed, they only complained about returning back to being slaves in a country that wasn’t even their own.
How did Moses continue to love God and love the people without getting caught up with the bickering, grumbling and complaining?
What was the secret of Moses? He remembered those five words God spoke to Him when he first came face to face with God – “I will be with you.”
When complaining SMACKED him in the face, he remembered God said, “I will be with you,” that promise was a promise of His presence and with His presence came His power. “I am” is enough.
God’s promise, His presence and His power will get me through the times I feel like jumping in there and complain with the best of them (complainers).
If complaining is right in front of me, reverse it around and put Jesus in front and move complaining out and away from me.
Father I pray that whenever I begin to get involved with a grumbling and I start infecting myself with a complaining spirit - help me recognize and turn my focus on Christ the King. In Jesus Name I pray that I’ll have it in me to turn away. Amen.
