The Confident Source
Aaron Cordeiro“Egypt will no longer be a source of confidence for the people of Israel but will be a reminder of their sin in turning to her for help. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.” (Ezekiel 29:16)
Egypt was a government super power that was full of self. Often weaker countries would turn to stronger countries for help but there was always a service trade off. The weaker countries would have to serve the stronger country some how for their support and protection. Most of the time the weaker country would also adopt many of the stronger countries ways. In most cases this made sense but with the people of God this was dangerous.
Proverbs says who ever you hang around you become just like. The dangerous thing about Gods people hanging around with the Egyptians to long is they would pick up some bad habits. Egyptians were mostly very self reliant. They had many false gods they looked to but their big thing was self reliance and self preservation. We see this in Gods comment on why they will fall,
“‘I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, you great monster lying among your streams. You say, “The Nile belongs to me; I made it for myself.” (Ezekiel 21:2)
What is your Egypt? It will be a source of confidence other than God. It could be you, a person, money, a dream, desire, drugs, alcohol, or a cause. There are many things that can be our source of confidence other than God. I believe the question God asks us all through Ezekiel the prophet would be, “can any of these things deliver us?”
Dear Lord,
Thank you for leading me back to a pure and simple devotion to Christ through Ezekiel this morning. You alone will deliver me. Forgive me for placing my confidence in anything else but you. No material possession, person, or desire could ever replace you Lord. You are sovereign! Amen.
