May Your Words Be Written On Our Hearts!
Carl HigashiDeuteronomy 6:6-7
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
God’s heart is that we have His words written on our hearts. Through Moses, God also expresses the importance of consistently teaching our children His ways. He wants us to be intentionally teaching our children the ways of the Lord daily. Spending time whether sitting, walking, lying down, or wake, every part of their day spent with their parents should be times of clear discipleship, in order that the next generation in our family learns to walk in the ways of God as it were written on their hearts.
The Lord reminds me today that each moment I get to spend with my children could be an opportunity to have God’s words written on the hearts of Emi and Mari. In order to transfer the heart of Christ to them, I must not only know God’s word, but must also be putting those words into action in my life. Having them come with me on ministry outings, doing devotions with them, or praying with them before bedtime, can make all the difference in the world.
I treasure the times I have to share with them in devotions weekly. These times allow me to hear what is on their hearts. It brings confirmation that His words are indeed starting to be written on their hearts as I have seen our conversations start to be deeper and more intimate. As it is written in Luke 6:45, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” My time with them reveals what is written on their hearts.
Lord, thank you for this reminder to be aware that my interactions with Emi and Mari are to be used intentionally as times of teaching and discipleship. I need to be sharing regular times with them day and night that they be trained and raised in the ways of God.
May the times that I spend with Emi and Mari be filled with the presence of your Holy Spirit and that the times increase as I be more intentional and improve on the shepherding of my children. May the words in the Bible be increasingly inscribed on my heart and my children’s as we grow in Christ together.
Lord may your words be written on our heart eternally and lived out! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
