Warrior Training
Rod ShimabukuroNow Abishai, the brother of Joab, was chief of the thirty. And he wielded his spear against 300 men and killed them and won a name beside the three. [21]He was the most renowned of the thirty and became their commander, but he did not attain to the three. 1 Chronicles 11:20-21
Much of chapter 11 describes the mighty men whom supported and stood by David’s side. These were his core leaders. They were fighters, warriors who embodied the character of loyalty and love. What would possess men like these to give of themselves this way to David? Was it because he was a king and had a superior position? David’s personality and qualities of leadership? I gather from Abishai that he was a bold, brave, fierce warrior himself, who had leadership abilities and knew how to serve and submit in loyalty to his king.
These are qualities I want to possess to serve my King! To embody bravery, boldness and fearless commitment that displays my covenant loyalty to King Jesus!
How Lord? How do I grow in these areas?
I sense the Lord saying to me to train. Train my thought life. Train by hiding the Word of God in my heart. This is the Sword of the Spirit that will enable me to champion the cause the Christ in my life. To fulfill His call and assignment for my life is to keep training in these areas.
Dear Spirit God.
I feel so bad and helpless at times - maybe more sinful because of my lack of discipline.... that I have to keep asking You for help, strength. I do need You and Your work within my heart to will and do of Your good pleasure. But I do given You my heart, mind, life - once again. Thank You for Your new and gracious mercies! I worship You Jesus, Daddie and Spirit God!
