Guide and Counselor

Richard Waialeale

Scripture

Acts 2:17-18 (NLT)

17 ‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

18 In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants—men and women alike— and they will prophesy.

Observation

Ever since that one day of the Pentecost in Acts 2, when God sent the Holy Spirit to the believers who were gathered together. This opened the door for any person receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to receive also the Holy Spirit. We are all baptized into one body, by one Spirit. Romans 8:9 tells me that if a person does not possess the Holy Spirit, he or she does not belong to Christ: “You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you.” I have access to the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit lives in me. The Holy Spirit becomes my permanent possession the moment I believe.

Application

The Holy Spirit has many functions. Not only does He distribute spiritual gifts according to His will, but He also comforts, teaches, and remains as a seal of promise upon our hearts until the day of Jesus’ return. The Holy Spirit also takes on the role of a Guide and Counselor, leading us in the way we should go and revealing God’s truth.

But one of the most important ways to recognize the Holy Spirit’s guidance is with God’s Word (there are also other ways). The Bible is the ultimate source of wisdom. I must keep up with my daily devotions and ask the Holy Spirit to feed me and fill me each morning. I need His Guidance and Counseling.

Prayer

May each morning bring a freshness and newness of Your Word to my soul. Thank you for guiding and teaching me in Jesus Name I Pray. Amen.
