Minding The Store
John TiltonMatthew 24:42-47
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
Jesus warned and encouraged His disciples to be prepared and ready, keeping watch as they would not know the day of His return. He then further asked them as to who would be a wise servant that would continue to follow through in obedience to His will, plan and commands, metaphorically likening His request to tending His house? Here is the key in Jesus telling the disciples of the importance to continue with all that was shared, taught and requested by Jesus during their time with Him. Not only should people be ready for His return, but those that have been entrusted with knowing the plan of Jesus return and His will, were given a duty to keep Jesus house in order in following through with what they were called, given and assigned to do.
I think of what I have been called, given and assigned to do as a believer in Christ, as one blessed with certain gifts and talents, as one privileged to be in fulltime ministry and one who has been granted an abundant grace as my story of God’s love for me. It is clear to me that I need to continue to “mind the store” each and every day with the responsibilities given to me. I need to continue in obedience to the Lords plan and principles, tending to His house and serving those that He has placed in my life and before me. Although receiving Jesus as my Savior is a gift of eternal life, He has further called me to be a storekeeper to mind His store that is stocked abundantly with His word, available for the taking off the shelves, purchased by His blood that was sacrificed on the cross for all.
Dear Jesus, I will earnestly do my best to mind the store each day and not get lazy or complacent in what you expect of me and called me to do. Furthermore, I understand am reminded and accept the call on my life to be a storekeeper for you, minding your store stocked with the treasures of your Word and will, that is available for the taking for all, the minister to, influence and change lives eternally.
