But It Doesn't Fit
Calvin Kochi38Then Saul clothed David with his garments and put a bronze helmet on his head, and he clothed him with armor. 39David girded his sword over his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. So David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, for I have not tested them.” And David took them off. 1 Samuel 17:38-39
Saul wanting to help David gives him his garments, helmet, armor, and sword. The one of the problems was that it wasn’t some that David was comfortable with wearing much les it was way to big for him. Even if David was to test it out it wasn’t made for him and it wasn’t what David would of choose to do battle with. Instead he took his stick in his hand and chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag that he had, even in his pouch, and his sling was in his hand and went into battle
What was right and a fit for Saul wasn’t necessarily right for David. I think that what we can end up doing the same thing in ministry we try to put our desires and agenda on other’s thinking that we are helping and equipping them. David knew that the Lord was there with him, and that the Lord who helped him defeat the lion and the bear would do the same for him as he went to battle against Goliath. David used what fitted him best to go to battle. He had a confidence that the Lord would be with Him and he went on the strength that God provided. There are two lessons for me. One is to help other to find the tool that God has given them, and then to help them to succeed. The other is to take what God has given me and to use them with confidence.
Thank you for the lessons that are learn by the example of others. Help me because I too need to example Jesus well.
