“YOU THEN…” Duplicate Disciples
Rod ShimabukuroYou then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:1-2
“You then my child” strikes me as Paul saying to his (spiritual) son…”You got this Timothy. You know my heart, ways, life, doctrine, faith…so duplicate disciples.
Paul felt the burn of being deserted, abandoned by fellow believers, possibly even leaders (2 Tim. 1:15-18). He trusts Timothy’s conviction, character and calling. He calls (again) Timothy his son. Paul’s “You then, my child” comes after his pointed description of Onesiphorus’ character and heart, who contrasted those who deserted and were ashamed of Paul.
“You then…”
I feel like the Lord is saying to me, to be careful, guarding my heart - especially involving “your very own - the household of faith” deserting, rejecting, abandoning…me. My investment in other disciples is heartfelt with passion to see them grow in and live for Jesus! Yet there are some who have turned “from me” leaving me feeling a little disheartened.
“But - YOU THEN, ROD… be strengthened with MY SPIRIT’S GRACE, THROUGH JESUS! And keep duplicating disciples! Keep training, teaching, guiding, living alongside of the disciples I bring to you…says the LORD!”
So that’s it Lord - this is my prayer. That i would obey Your message to me to continue, guarding my heart and teaching. Help me to grow in love with You, more and more each day!
Help me to get over the hurts of feeling rejected, abandoned… continuing to make disciples. Help me to know who are these “other faithful men and women” to invest in. What a great word of conviction Lord - thank You and I LOVE YOU!
