My Lamps - Not Dim or Doused
John TiltonLuke 8:16-18
“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”
Jesus speaks of His believers being the lamps that because of being enlightened through a relationship with him, that His believers are meant to be a light of Christ to others. Jesus continues to teach that for the most part, people will see who we really are by way of our witness, character, obedience and walk in Christ. If we do not shine and steward the love of Christ as he has meant us to, we may see our anointing and lives led by Christ change to have our blessings and use by Jesus, lost and taken from us. Simply put: Through Christ, we have been given a new life with a new heart and therefore a new way of living our lives in obedience to Christ, that will be a light to others IF we steward it well. If we don’t’, we will lose what has been meant for us as it will probably be taken from us in some way.
It’s cathartic and energizing to realize that knowing Jesus Christ as my savior including the power of the Holy Spirit in my life creates a new person in me that is meant to shine as a witness to others. It is in my obedience and doing His will that I shine like a lamp. However, that which I do that is not of the Lord will dim and perhaps douse my light and lamp. I must always remember that I am an example and witness for Christ by way of my walking in His will and word. What a privilege to be called by Jesus to represent Him in all that I do.
Dear Lord, may I honor and steward the call on my life to walk and work in your will and call. That as I do this, I am shining your light. May my light not dim and or be doused, by my lack of obedience or falling to sin. But rather, may I be the light that has prominence because of my discipline and intentionality.
