Not in His tomb, to live in mine!
Rod ShimabukuroJohn 20:6Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.
After scanning the other Gospel accounts of the tomb scene and Jesus’ resurrection, this account in John expounds on Peter’s and the other disciples reaction and findings. Without hesitation it seems, Peter passes the other disciple to head directly into the tomb. Just seeing the tombstone out of it’s place must’ve joggled Peter’s and the disciples minds and hearts.
This event is the beginning of the evidence and confirmation of our security in and with God. The evidence of the resurrected body of Jesus started with the findings of an empty tomb. It’s interesting that God allowed the linen and cloth to be left behind. I wonder how much those pieces of clotting would be worth today?
Believing. It’s easy to say I believe in Jesus - but still be in need of affirming proof along life’s path. The disciples dealt with their own doubts, being in need of reminders and proof, that Jesus was who He said He was.
My proof that Jesus is alive is His manifest presence IN THE TOMB OF MY HEART. He is no longer in HIs tomb - but has taken residency in mine. I’m thankful for the gift of faith - believing that Jesus is the Son of God and Messiah who has come to rescue me from me.
Dear Father, Thank You for raising Jesus form the dead - for emptying the tomb - to fill my tomb. Thank you for making the tomb of my heart - home for Your Godhead!
