To Whom Would We Go?
Tim Savage68Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life.69We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.” John 6
Now this is a sobering thought. What if I couldn’t believe in and worship my Lord and Savior? “Lord, to whom would we go?” I would be set adrift, I would no longer have purpose or direction. I always think about how to follow God more closely and how to keep focused on Him, but I’ve never thought about what would happen if I couldn’t follow Him any longer. That is such a frightening thought. Suddenly I would only have what unbelievers have – faith in myself or faith in the world, neither brings any peace, purpose or satisfaction. A world without God is not worth living in. It would be a treadmill leading nowhere and a life without goodness. Must be what hell looks like.
We have been given the most precious gift. Jesus Christ, who is our reason for living. Jesus Christ, who gifts us with eternal life in heaven with Him. Jesus Christ, in whom our faith gives us reason and purpose to live with joy and peace. It’s such a powerful exercise to picture a world without Him in order to fully appreciate the world with Him. I take Him for granted too often. I must live my life in order to please Him. I must live with gratitude that He chose me and loves me. The most important thing I can do is to help others realize the gift He’s given us so that they also will spend in eternity with Him.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for choosing us and thank You for loving us.
In Jesus name,
Amen
