Trusting in the Lord
Ken SilvaPsalm 18:2
The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
The imagery of these phrases of scripture is clear and easy to envision. As David was fleeing from King Saul he put his entire reliance and trust upon God. The land in which he was hiding was hilly and rocky with many caves that were used for refuge. The Lord became David's rock and fortress and place of solace and refuge. Through trust, prayer and faith David believed God was with him and would deliver him from his pursuers.
It is easy for me to say I have faith and trust upon the Lord when life is going well. When trouble is absent and there are no major difficulties my faith is fluid and easy to hang on to. My challenge is when storms occur in my life, when difficulty is on my left and right. I have a tendency to rely upon myself. This has seldom proved beneficial and is something that I need to to be mindful of. The Lord seeks fellowship with us, through the mountain top moments as well as when we are in the deepest valleys. He promises to be our "all in all", our "everything".
Dear Lord I thank you for being a God who loves me unconditionally, day in and day out. You are my rock, my fortress, my deliverer. Help me to press closer to you, especially when life is difficult. Help me to be an example for my wife and children of complete surrender to you. Dear Lord I love and thank you for all things. Amen.
