Smudged Glasses
John TiltonMatthew 6:22-23
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness
It is so true that our eyes do indeed filter what is received into one’s minds and hearts. If the eyes see goodness, the mind and heart will respond with goodness. If the eyes see bad, evil of negativity, the mind and heart will have the propensity to respond with an ill attitude or behavior. Subsequently, the mind and heart will then affect other parts or the whole of one’s body. I believe that the key in the matter is the circular connectivity of what transpires between the eyes, mind and heart. Our eyes take in the data, the mind processes what the eyes receive: yet, it is the heart that will determine the internalization, position and response. The circular connectivity is then how the heart affects the mind and therefore the eyes that portray a person’s position as one relates and speaks to others. If the filter of our eyes are like smudged glasses, our take and internalization will be smudged, unclear and often adversely affected. Cleaning one’s filter of the eye’s so that we are not wearing smudged glasses is to clean our filter, which is enabled by our time in the Word and our time with the Lord, especially in prayer.
I think of the occasions and times where I let the past taint my filters for my eyes causing me to look and perceive through smudged glasses that affect my heart and mind. I believe that I need to be intentional in causing my heart to be influenced by God’s Word and my time with Him so that my heart will filter things in a Godly way or through the heart of God so that my response will be relative to the goodness of God.
Dear Lord, please guide me to cleanse the filters of my eyes and heart to see things clearly through the heart, example and will of Christ so that my eyes will see good. Subsequently, may my response and character be like minded with the good of you.
