In the World but not of the World
Ken SilvaPsalm 20: 6 Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. 7Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. 8They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
King David authors this Psalm. He hears the cries of those that seek him, he watches over those who’s hearts long to be close to his. He knows the ones that place their trust in him and him alone. He also sees those that are of the world. Those that place their trust in worldly things (money, power, position, houses, cars, etc,). Their hearts are far from the Lord, their reliance is on self and the things that are material and fade away.
As I read the scripture I find myself praying for my son and daughter that they know where the true source of strength and comfort come from. They are college age students and inundated by the “world”. The things of this world are attractive, seductive and all consuming but they fade away, they are not eternal and lack substance. The world is a 24/7 non-stop advertising campaign. That’s why I remind them that they need to be in the Word, be in fellowship, and find the time to “be still” and hear God speaking into their lives. Pastor Wayne shared a great truth with us last weekend. “Bad company corrupts good morals”. Who we hang around with has an influence on us, either positive or negative. Those we choose as friends should be intentional. We should not settle for friends but rather choose wisely those that have a heart for the Father.
Dear Lord I long to be near you. I find comfort in the shade of your covering. Thank you dear Lord for loving me in spite of my opala. Amen.
