Peer Pressure
John TiltonExodus 23:2-3
Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd, and do not show favoritism to a poor person in a lawsuit.
Such insightful reckoning scriptures that can check one’s spirit of being pressured into doing things one wouldn’t normally do, changing one’s words to go along with peers and showing favoritism or angst against someone due to peer pressure.
What happens when we are wanting to fit it, please our peers, desiring approval by others or simply not having the character to go against the grain of people we want to please, by being swayed in our words and actions. I regretfully do recall in the past jumping in with a negative spin about someone because others in the conversation were doing so, thus, adding fuel to a devaluing fire that was burning someone else. Or times where I was younger and went along with a prank or broke a rule because I wanted to be a part of the gang or the in people. How about judging others because of being swayed by others?
I really am convicted on desiring that my word and my actions toward others in testimony, value given, words spoken and action taken to be based on my relationship with Christ, my obedience to His will of being a man of character and genuinely caring for others; would either add value to people and situations, or may my mouth and actions be mute and standing down.
Dear Lord, may I example and express my understanding of your love and value of your children, by my heart and character of speaking of others in a positive and valuing way, rather then allowing peer pressure or wanting to be “in,” and therefore taking value from others and even attacking their character and person.
