Twinkle In Their Eye
John TiltonMatthew 5:14-16
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
I love these words of reaffirmation of what Jesus has called us to be in terms of beacons of light, that His attributes would shine forth from our hearts out to others in what we say and do, and that they would see it in our eyes. As we read the scriptures, we can visualize the beautiful town on the hill that draws our eyes to it, or the lamp that gives forth a hue of light enabling us to see. The scriptures depict beauty that should be seen and not covered, beauty that attracts, inspires, soothes and quenches the heart.
That beauty is what I’ve seen in others through their smile, the twinkle in their eyes that allow us to see into their hearts and know beyond a shadow of doubt what good people with genuine hearts they are. That is what letting our light shine. What they see in our eyes, what they hear coming forth from our words, what they see in our body language. Every have someone enter a room and you get excited? On the other hand, every have someone enter a room and your dread the ensuing moment? That is the light the Jesus examples and shines forth.
Dear Lord, may my light shine like Jesus. I pray that people will see a twinkle in my eye surrounded by a smile of peace and love; that words that come forth from my mouth would be encouraging, that my actions would example love.
