Breaking Free From The Past

Richard Waialeale

Scripture

Romans 6:18 (NIV)

18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

Romans 6:23 (NIV)

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Observation

I use to think God convicted me of my sin, by showing me my shame.

But I found out that God doesn’t convict a believer by showing us our shame.

God convicts a believer by Reminding us of our righteousness.

Ask the Lord to Remind us of our righteousness. And you know what He’ll remind you of:

Not your works, and not your trying, reaching and always coming up short.

But He’ll show you Jesus. Cause Jesus is your righteousness.

And the Holy Spirit will point you to Jesus.

He’ll point you to the one who hung on the cross, went down in the grave, and buried your sins, and rose on the third day, who lives forever, to declare His Righteousness over your life and remember your sins no more.

It’s not what you did, it’s what Jesus did.

Application

It’s not based on our performance and our frailty – It’s based on Christ’s performance and His victory.

Your eternal life is not based on your performance – it’s based on His.

I am only set free from my sins, to live in righteousness with Christ because of God’s grace. That’s an incredible feeling to be living in - with Jesus.

Prayer

Thank you Jesus for loving me and saving me in Your righteousness I break free my past. Amen.
