If You Want To Walk On Water, Step Out Of The Boat

Richard Waialeale

Scripture

John 6:19-20 (NIV)

19 When they had rowed three or three and a half miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were terrified.

20 But he said to them, "It is I; don't be afraid."

Observation

If You Want To Walk On Water, Step Out Of The Boat is a book by John Ortberg about stepping out in faith. The actual accounts of this miracle appear in three Gospels: Matthew 14:22-33, Mark 6:45-52 and John 6:16-21.

What this story means to me is how I am one step away from the adventure of my life Deep within me lies the same faith.

Out on the risky waters of faith, Jesus is waiting to meet you and offer you his Holy Spirit power that aims to change your life forever, deepening your faith and trust in God.

Application

As quoted in John Ortbergs book comes my application:

“Never try to have more faith – just get to know God better. And because God is faithful, the better you know him, the more you’ll trust him.” (p. 81)

“If you want to walk on water, you have to be willing to get your feet wet first. Then you discover it is worth the risk.” (p. 79)

“If I’m walking closely with God, if I have the sense of God being with me, I find that problems lose their ability to damage my spirit.” (p. 143)

“God does some of his best work in caves. The cave is where God resurrects dead things.” (p. 151)

We all need to be challenged to stop being comfortable in our boats and start stepping out in faith.

Prayer

Father my prayer is simply to “Trust in You with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. I all my ways, acknowledge Him and He will make my paths straight.”

Even if it means, to walk on water, In Jesus Name I Pray. Amen.
