Just Tell Um To Get Lost

John Tilton

Scripture

Matthew 4:10-11 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only. Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Observation

After the devil attempted and tried in vain to test Jesus to follow and accept his temptations that in a worldly view might seem inviting, Jesus simply but profoundly told the devil the beat it … love it! Jesus, then clearly shuts the devil down with God’s word that we are to worship and serve only the Lord God. With those words, the devil left him, subsequently to have the angels come and attend him. The process of also Jesus taking the stand that he did, before the angels came to attend Him is significant.

Application

I love the simplicity and power of what transpired. Jesus knew God’s will, stood on God’s will with obedience, which I believe gave him the power to stand and make his statements without a doubt.

This is a great reminder as I am tempted in life with what the enemy, the world or my own selfishness and pride may offer; but instead to remember, call on, stand on and proclaim God’s word and will to tell the enemy to get lost. Furthermore, that I will proclaim that I know and resolve to worship and serve the Lord God Jesus Christ ONLY! I believe it’s that step of saying and doing what’s right, rather then letting thoughts, temptations and desires ponder in my mind, as I know the flesh is weak.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please empower me with your word and the resolve and intentionality to recall, state and stand on your word to overcome the enemy’s temptations, and that I will worship and serve You and only You!
