The Finger of God

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. Luke 11:20

Observation

Having cast out a demon, Jesus was being accused of having the power of Beelzebub. It wasn’t a difficult task, but one that spoke a primary message of the Kingdom of God arriving in and through Jesus!

The tiny nuance of God’s finger, not hand or arm, is noted by Luke about Jesus casting out demons. As if to say, the largeness of God’s presence is so much more than a tiny demonic situation. The Power of God’s finger carved out His commands - recorded in Deuteronomy and Exodus, of the finger of God inscribing His commands on stone tablets. There were magicians who even recognized the finger of God’s judgement in Ex 8.

Luke contrasts the finger of man (lawyers) which to me represents the insignificance of man’s power or love in verse 46 - And he said, “Woe to you lawyers also! For you load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.

Application

My take away is the sense of faith, assurance and confidence of trust in God that He is strengthening in my heart...right NOW! If by ”His finger“ He works powerful miracles - then by the fulness of His very real presence in my heart - He will guide me through the little troubles I face.

I want to live differently by magnifying His Finger :) - not my burdens. His finger, hand, arm - Fulness... is on my side. So my burdens, even now...in my mind is shrinking to it’s proper place.

Prayer

I take the thoughts of my burdens and give them to You Lord. Your finger touches my heart and overwhelms me with Your presence of power, protection and renewed purpose in my life. Thank you for Your finger upon my heart and life!
