God Alone Knows!

Jon Burgess

Scripture

2He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”4Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. Ezekiel 37:2-5

Observation

Ezekiel had no reason to pretend or stand on pretense with God. He had no idea what God was about to do with the Valley of Dry Bones he was looking at. Ezekiel had no pride so he knew if anything was going to happen to change the desolation he saw in front of him it would have to be God who made it happen! All Ezekiel had to do was to be obedient to what God called him to, even if it made no sense. Because, of course, it made no sense. How could dry bones live? The absurdity of the question revealed the impossibility of the task to be anything outside of a supernatural intervention. Ezekiel positioned himself in obedience and then God did the heavy lifting. Ezekiel spoke the impossible, but God did the impossible. Ezekiel spoke life, but God bought the life. Ezekiel said it, but God did it!

Application

I love how God invites humans to be involved in something humans cannot do. We can't bring the dead to life, but He has given us the resurrection power that flows through Jesus. This is really liberating because I don't have to make anything happen and I'm not limited to what I can make happen by my own strength. I'm adopting Ezekiel's response in the face of the insurmountable and the unknown. When the impossible question is asked I will rely on the God of the impossible to answer. "How are you going to build a 15 million dollar parking lot and auditorium for New Hope Oahu in this economy?" God Alone Knows! Whatever He asks me to do though I'm going to do it, because I want a front row seat on the miraculous actions He is about to take! "How in the world are you going to buy a house on this island with the median price for a single family home so high above your means?" God Alone Knows! We will do whatever we have to position ourselves for the supernatural to invade the natural. To give when He says to give, to move when He says to move, to prophesy over the circumstances in front of us. We will do what we need to do so God can do what only God can do!

Prayer

This is actually very exciting. I face a valley of impossibilities, but You are the God of the impossible. Breath Your Breathe Oh God! You Alone Know how this is all going to come together and I'm going to do this with You!
