I'm Trying My Best to Rest

John Tilton

Scripture
Leviticus 23:3 "There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; werever you live, it is a sabbath to the Lord.
Observation
The Lord was very clear in his directive to Moses that the sabbath is required as a day to join in sacred assembly to the Lord and to refrain from work.
Application
It is a very simple yet profound spiritual, physical and physiological matter that we are to dedicate a day to worship the Lord and rest our minds and bodies from the work and tasks that we do. The thing is that in the busyness of today, the face paced world we live in, it is actually often easier to break the sabbath in order to fulfill our responsibilities in life, family, work and ministry. Although I truly wish I could spend a day each week totally resting and spending more time in the Word that day and in my time with the Lord, the pressure of not getting things done or falling behind in my work and responsibilities causing me often to do what I feel I have to do. Yet, I know that it is not the Lord's will and that I am being disobedient. I know that I just have to prioritize and balance matters better that I might truly take a sabbath. I think that it is the anal part of me that causes me to break the sabbath in order to get things done and off my task list. Yet, if I am to realize God's best, I must do what he directs me to do.
Prayer
Dear Lord, forgive me for breaking the sabbath. Thank you for the reminder of how important the Sabbath is and my being obedient to your Word and your will.
