JESUS IS (not just has) LIFE!

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 ESV

Observation

Yes you Bible reading schedule sticklers, John 11 is not in our current reading. Thank God He’s not religious about “My Bible Reading Schedule:)”

I think the point of this text is who Jesus is -as the Son of GOD! Messiah Divine! The Divine Deity! Jesus is not just proving His supernatural powers, His love and compassion. Jesus is saying “I am Life. I am God who is Resurrection. I not only have resurrection power to raise Lazarus from the dead, I am Divine Life.”

I don’t think the question to Martha, “Do you believe this?” is just about believing Jesus has resurrection power to give life. I believe the question implies whether she believes that He is the Resurrection and Life.

Application

Do I believe this? That Jesus not only possesses power to heal the sick, cast out demons, raise the dead...? Jesus IS! I want my application to be worship, not just prayer to ask Jesus to do or perform on my behalf. I tend to ask of Him more than I worship and thank Him. It’s the difference between me being a consumer Christ lover or a worshiper of who Jesus IS.

My attitude needs to make constant shifts. Even when I ask of Him, to provide, bless, meet needs, etc... I want to base my asking on worship and thanksgiving. No matter what the results of Jesus provision or blessing - I want to be constant and consistent in being a worshiper of Jesus!

Prayer

You are Risen and I’m grateful for whom You are. Not just what You do or can do. I thank You - I worship You - I love You - for who You are as God Divine - the Son of God - The Resurrection and Life.... and opening my heart and life to know You!
