You are My witnesses

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Isaiah 43:12I have revealed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God. 13Yes, and from ancient days I am he. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it?”

Observation

Isaiah’s message communicates the Holy God, who loves His people, shows mercy and doesn’t compromise His righteousness. God of the Old Testament reveals His grace and love - He saves His people and proclaims His covenant keeping heart to be Israel’s God. From the past to the present, no one - no god, can reverse God’s actions. He is the Deliverer!

Application

My take away and life action today is: To reconsider what I’ve tended to believe and teach - that the God of the Old Covenant is only a just and righteous judge. I believe He loved in the OT, but I find myself seeing more and more - a very redemptive God, full of love and compassion. I feel like my studies and teaching are and will continue to be affected by this conviction - that God is love in the Old Covenant!

Prayer

Dear God of the Old Covenant. I know You are the same God from the beginning of Genesis to Revelation. Thank You for showing me that You are consistent in character, faithful to all generations! I commit to being Your witness - witnessing to those you bring into my life. Please help me not to wimp out on being Your witness!
