To See The Miraculous

John Tilton

Scripture

Matthew 12:38-40

Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a signfrom you.” “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish,so the Son of Manwill be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Observation

The Pharisees, possibly in wanting to test or challenge Jesus, asked for a sign from Him. I love how Jesus points out their motive and then answers them prophetically in pointing them to Jonah being in the belly of the whale and what would transpire with Himself. Thus, confirming that there would be a sign.

Application

This past weekend during ministry time, Pastor Richard was sharing about being able to see the miraculous every day in everything when we are intent to make God moments out of the mundane and routine. This continues to resonate with me that we often desire to see something miraculous take place even though we have received Jesus as our Savior. It’s like doubting Thomas. We want something so spectacular that will prove to all who Jesus is. Yet, when one takes the time to think about all that has transpired in history, when we read the Word and when we make Jesus a part of our daily lives, it is so clear that Jesus is everywhere around us daily and communicates through us in prayer, our thoughts and subtle ways if we have eyes to see and ears to hear. It is our intentional efforts to welcome Jesus in to our daily activities through our devotions and prayer times. We then can connect the dots and see the miraculous. We then are able to see things that would have been and are right before our eyes. It's perception based on intent and connecting the dots to see Jesus presence.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please open my eyes and ears through my intentional ways of making you a part of my daily life beginning with my devotional time, prayer time and various times throughout the day. I know then that I will see the miraculous.
