What? Christian Prostitution?

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

6“‘I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people. 7“‘Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God. 8Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the Lord, who makes you holy. Leviticus 20

Observation

“I will set My face against you if…!” This warning is stern, rigid and gives no wiggle room for compromise. As God followers, the Israelites wanted to follow God’s rules. People who were half hearted, doubters, resentful most likely looked at these commands as absurd or to hyper religious. God may sound proud and self absorbed in these kinds of passages. But the reality and truth is that HE IS GOD and nothing should take the place of His sole authority and holiness.

Those who turn to other mediums and spiritist to “replace or displace God” prostitute themselves. What a word picture!!! God’s people selling themselves out for another means to be godly or like god.

Application

Oh My! Consecration and holiness is a serious call by God. To live differently is to be warned that I too may have a tendency to prostitute myself, by giving myself to people, pleasure, goals that displace God. OF COURSE I DON’T mean to! But in our western, spoiled, entitlement, greedy, self absorbed, selfish, self centered culture…there are so many “mediums” vying to replace God in my life!

What? Christian Prostitution? What? We Christians have secret agendas within called: Lust of the Flesh, Lust of the Eyes and the Pride of Life! What does this look like in our lives? Leadership? Churches? YIKES! What do I or we Christian’s sell ourselves out to? Prostitution represents a sinful gain, that is many times unseen in our culture. Because sinful gain…begins own the heart, motives, ambitions - hidden behind the curtains of “God’s Church.”

Prayer

I Rod, covenant with You O Holy and Awesome God, to love you purely - by the grace and power of the cross of Jesus! To live a life uncompromising ,without the prostitution of what I can gain!

May I live a life fully surrendered to You Holy and Loving God. Thank you for calling me out of prostitution, into Your Kingdoms light and courts! I love You!
