Be On Your Toes

John Tilton

Scripture

Mark 13:32-37 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.“Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”

Observation

It is so true that no one knows when Jesus will return in all of His glory except our Lord God Almighty. I love the analogy of one preparing to leave one’s home and makes arrangements for order to continue through one’s servants, hoping that when one returns all would be in order.

Application

For me, Jesus is that master of my home, my life and my heart. He put my house in order by dying on the cross for my sins, and through the Holy Spirit continues to guide and direct my life. Yet, it is my carnal ways and propensities that sometimes creep in with distraction, disorder and disarray. I need to intentionally keep my house in order by Jesus’ house rules of His word, which are very clear and succinct. Knowing that I am a sinner and that I do fall at times, may I minimize those times that I fall and pray that as Jesus knows my heart and allows me a path of forgiveness, that I will follow in obedience, repentance and serving Him.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please guide me in my heart, mind and soul, that I would seek to “be on my toes,” ready and prepared for your return. I pray that you will find me in obedience and bringing honor to your name.
