A Child's Appreciation

Tim Savage

Scripture

1 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

2Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,

Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary

3And gathered from the lands,

From the east and from the west,

From the north and from the south. Psalm 107

Observation

Such a simple phrase, but such a powerful gesture - this morning I was reminded and convicted to spend more time telling God how much I love and appreciate the continual miracles and provision He provides our family. I’m guilty of taking for granted the amazing blessings He rains down on us.

I just returned from a trip to Oregon and Washington with my family and one of the best things to happen and maybe one of the most unexpected was that my kids, on several occasions, and completely unprompted, said thank you after events or meals. It wasn’t a big deal and the kids didn’t say it to get noticed, but they did say it. As parents, my wife and I really appreciated that - the kids noticed and recognized that we made an effort to provide a nice or fun experience and it meant a lot to us.

Application

I’m sure our Heavenly Father feels the same way about His earthly children. For all of the trouble, whining, sinning and complaining we do, He must be delighted when we make an effort to stop and thank Him for all that He does for us. Appreciation goes a long way with me and I have no doubt that it does for Him also. A simple lesson today on giving thanks to the Lord – something that I need to do more often because He cares for me day in and day out.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for all that You do for me and my family. Thank You for all of the things that I see and notice, but thanks more so for all of the things that You coordinate, arrange and organize that I have no idea You do for me. Forgive me when I take You for granted, I can never begin to repay Your sacrifice, blessings and provision. I love You Lord.

In Jesus name,

Amen
