I love aging in God, for God!

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture
Psalm 92:12 The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, 15 to declare that the LORD is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
Observation
The greatness of God and HIs works are penned in this song/psalm. I love that this song includes the heritage of God’s greatness through faithful, stable, grounded men and women of God! The generation of elders who have lived to lay a strong foundation of God for generations to come.

God values all generations! There seems to be so much emphasis given to the emerging generation. Of course we want to invest in, reach out to them. But our modern culture deemphasizes our seniors…the elders of our community and churches.

The old in age whose righteousness is in Christ, having been faithful in the house of the Lord, are people of fruitfulness! These elders, who may never be teaching or ruling "elders" in leadership in a church, have much purpose in the body of Christ. The old in age are meant to bear fruit. In other words, NO RETIREMENT when it comes to the purpose of bearing fruit, declaring and teaching the character of God (v 15).

Application
To the old and aged... get off your rocker.
You have purpose in Christ, for Christ. We want you and need you to declare the character and faithfulness of God - to all generations! We need you to mentor and speak to us of God’s greatness and faithfulness!

For me.
As I’m aging, my prayer is to be a spiritual elder who is faithful, committed and consistent in living for and speaking of HIs greatness! Getting old is a blessing, in Christ. May my heart and life be full of sap and green for the pickins’!
Prayer
Thanks for the great, refreshing perspective on aging Lord. I want to get old and grow old in You, for You… with Beckie :) Thank You Lord!
