Bummers. Love gets stuck in my ears!

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. [9]For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” [10]Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Romans 13:8-10

Observation

God is consistent. Love is the greatest characteristic that fulfills the laws of God. God issued some pretty stiff, specific laws in the Old Covenant. If not followed, there were consequences, some of which meant death. It’s Jesus’ death that shows the ultimate love - the love of God, sinless, pure Son of God - giving HIs life to pay the consequence and price for all the sins of mankind! This is Love.

So Paul affirms the heart of God, writing by the influence of the Spirit of God - that loving people fulfills the works of obeying all laws. Thus, Love fulfills the law.

Application

Here it is again - Love. I need to hear this word - but not just in my ears. Sometimes love gets stuck in my ears - that’s a bummer. Because I really need God’s love to be exemplified through my words, looks, service.

I know Jesus love has filled my heart by the Spirit of God. But the reminder to love like Jesus loved and to love with HIs love, gets stuck in my ears.

  • I hear and am reminded - but I need to hear, know, believe and live HIs love through my life!
Prayer

Dear God of Love!
Help me to love with my life’s actions! With my words, eyes, life service, listening hears - giving the needy attention, helping those who are less fortunate. God - I am so stingy with sharing love at times. Thank You for Your Love - poured out graciously and generously in my heart, through my life!
