Loving beyond what’s in it for me.

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. [2]Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. [3]For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.” Romans 15:1-3

Observation

In light of living conscientiously, being sensitive not violating another’s conscience, not being a stumbling block to others who are weak…etc… Paul’s message is clear…Love and build others up! The focal point is not me, it’s others. Of course not at the expense of neglecting or abdicating my spiritual responsibilities.

Application

Sacrificial Love is costly. It’s deathly…Death to self!

In the passages below, it is clear to me that Pursuing a lifestyle of love that promotes peace, mutual edification and love of others is a Biblical priority!

Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. [9] For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” [10] Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Romans 13:8-10

So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. Romans 14:19

My take away: Love others beyond what’s in it for me! What is in my love and life that is pleasing to Jesus? Am I displaying and putting on the love of God towards others?

Prayer

This hurts! Ouch Lord!! It’s so revealing how Me focused I am! Here I go again, repenting of my sinful selfish, self centeredness!! BUT THANK YOU - THANK YOU!!!!! For Your faithful - ever Unfailing Love for me.

Please continue to love others through me!…. Especially my family! I burn them too much - with grumbling, irritability and impatience! Help me O Lord!
