A HOLY WARNING

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Acts 5:38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

Observation

The apostles were commanded not to preach about Jesus, having been jailed, miraculously released and found disobeying the High Priests orders. They were brought before the High Priest and council, interrogated - to be murdered.

Gamaliel, held in high hour as a rabbi, steps in while Peter and the apostles are being questioned for their rebellion and treason. He requests the apostles to be removed from the meeting and begins advising the council and people, which includes V38-39.

As a teacher of the law, Gamaliel recognizes the supremacy of God. If the apostles activity are truly of God, no one can stop them. In fact you’ll be fighting against God - which is a very holy, stern warning…not just a passing statement.

Application

Oh my…! I wonder how many times I’ve misunderstood the workings and ways of God. I became one who fought against His purpose. Not intentionally, but wow…!

Some of my past human ways, knee jerk reactions, unwise-rash thoughts - as a Christian, have proved me being wrong. My human led purposes, motives found me colliding with the higher purposes of God.

Prayer

Dear Father! I’m so thankful for Your great grace and forgiveness! You always are leading me to discover You, Your ways, Your heart, Your purposes. Thank you for helping me to see my frail, human, unwise, foolish, sinful ways. Help me to learn from my mistakes and sins.

I want to BE and live more like You…to honor You in partnership, not as one fighting against Your heart and will. I LOVE YOU!!!!!!
