Intersection of Faith

Ken Silva

Scripture

Acts 3:6-7

Then Peter said, "silver or gold i do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong.

Observation

In this passage of scripture Peter and John are doing what is customary, they are going to the temple to pray and worship at the time of the evening sacrifice. The beggar is doing what is customary for him, he is begging at the temple gate hoping for the charity of those passing by. At this simple intersection in time a miraculous event occurs. Peter commands the beggar to look at him and he heals him through the name and power of Jesus Christ. As a simple human being Peter had no special means to heal, but through our savior Jesus Christ, through the invocation of the name "Jesus Christ" salvations and blessings are released. Peter commanded the man to stand and walk, the hand reaching for the man was Peter's but the power to heal belonged to Christ.

Application

In our everyday lives we encounter "intersections" of faith. This past weekend under the 'Ohana tent I was speaking with a friend who is struggling with anger issues. He asked me to pray for him that he could resolve his tendencies to explode at people when things didn't go his way. I relayed to him that there is power in prayer, there is power in the name of Jesus. The scripture tells us so and gives many examples. But that power is only released when we truly believe that Jesus is our Lord and Savior and we've committed our lives to him. Our commitment to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to the Father helps us shake off whatever strongholds we're dealing with.

Prayer

Dear Lord, Father God I thank you for today. Another day to enjoy the wonders you have created for us. Another day to be in relationship with family and friends. Dear Lord I thank you for your unconditional love, unwaivering, unchanging. I am in awe of you, I worship and adore you father. Amen
