Search Among the Living

Tim Savage

Scripture

5The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? 6He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Luke 24

Observation

I love what the angel said to the women, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?” Those words mean as much or more to us today than they did back then. So often, we look among the dead for things that we think will satiate us or make us happy or bring us peace. Jesus told them that after 3 days He would rise; He would no longer be among the dead but that, having beaten death, He would be alive.

But we continue to look to the world for money, relationships, status, influence, power or the next high, rather than look to the One who is truly alive. John 4:13-14 13Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

Application

Things that are dead may bring us fleeting happiness, but only He that is alive will bring us everlasting joy. When I look to the world to satisfy my desires I will always be disappointed in the end. I must look for my Savior among the living because He is life itself. The living water that He provides satisfies beyond compare and is eternal.

Jesus died for my sins and now He is risen. He is risen indeed.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Forgive me when I look in the wrong places for a temporary fix. You are the only answer. You are the eternal answer. May I drink of Your living water and never be thirsty again.

In Jesus name,

Amen
