“And He Called”

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

The Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting. He said, 2“Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When anyone among you brings an offering to the Lord, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock. Leviticus 1:1-2

Observation

The Hebrew meaning for leviticus is “and he called.” The greek (Septuagint) definition of Leviticus refers to “things concerning the Levites.” Much of the book deals with details of priestly functions. But I’m observing verse 1 as a key word, in connection to the Hebrew meaning - “and He called.”

While the details of instructions and commands are crucial for Israel to follow, a theme I see involves the CALLING OF THE LORD. This calling is important to know how to approach, enter and cultivate a relationship with a holy God! If the LORD DOESN’T CALL… His people will wander and turn their back on God.

Application

If the Lord didn’t call me to know Him, I’d be…doomed, as I was living a sin filled, selfish life.

  • The Lord called me to know, receive and believe in Jesus.
  • The Lord called me to live for Him.
  • The Lord called me to obey Him through water baptism.
  • The Lord called me to be filled, baptized in the Holy Spirit, distributing HIs gifts to me.
  • The Lord called me to study, grow, learn of Him through Bible studies, school.
  • The Lord called me to be married - YAY GOD!
  • The Lord called me to be a pastor.
  • The Lord called me into full time pastoral/teaching ministry.
  • I am a Levite at heart, called like Moses to speak to people about a holy and living God.

Prayer

Dear Holy and Loving Father. I honor You. I respect and love You. I bow my heart to you mighty, majestic, all powerful God! Thank you for calling me to Yourself! Thank you for calling me to obey you, one day at a time…to be Your son, servant. May I faithfully serve You with joy and passion. May I serve Your creation, Christian and non Christian - to love people as You do! I Love You Holy God!
