Purity Of Our Camp

John Tilton

Scripture

Numbers 5:1-4

The Lord said to Moses,“Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone who has a defiling skin disease or a discharge of any kind, or who is ceremonially unclean because of a dead body. Send away male and female alike; send them outside the camp so they will not defile their camp, where I dwell among them.” The Israelites did so; they sent them outside the camp. They did just as the Lord had instructed Moses.

Observation

God was pretty direct in terms of how impurity was dealt with in the Old Testament with those who were defiled or unclean due to disease or being ceremonially unclean. We read that they were banned from the camp, so as not to defile the camp.

Application

I liken this to our camps; be it our human temples of our own bodies, or our dwellings and spaces where we live and work. Our desire is to have God’s presence in our lives and in our personal spaces. However, how can that take place if there are ungodly or detestable things that conflict or are counter to God’s Word and principles of who we are called to be and what our personal spaces are to be in order to invite the presence of God in? It can be through media, TV, paper media, figurine images and our own practices of things that we do that may be linked with the ungodly; these can be portals to evil and demonic things of Satan, rather then invitations to the Lord to dwell in our presence or respond when we call on Him.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I pray that I would rid my life and my personal areas of anything that is not of you, or especially that which is not of your will, Word and way. May I cleanse my life of the habits and physical items that would be a defilement of what you would want of, in or for my life. May my life and personal areas be that which you would want to be present and come into my life as I pray to you.
