Me…SUBMIT?

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture
Ephesians 5 [15]Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, [16]making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. [17]Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. [18]And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, [19]addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, [20]giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, [21]submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Observation
Paul brilliantly contrasts the difference between living wisely and unwisely, foolishness and understanding God’s will, being drunk in the flesh or filled with the Spirit. Why? Because the days are evil and God loves us so much, He doesn’t want us to live imprisoned to our fleshly, sinful ways. Why? Because relationships are important. Paul’s context deals with relationships among believers and the influences of the darkness of our sin and world.
Application
Verse 21 is illuminated in my heart and mind today. One of the keys to victory in living a wise and filled with the Spirit kind of life is found in this verse. There are things in my life that others who love me may see in me, that I don’t. I seem to mask my weaknesses, hiding faults - but others can smell the ways of foolish and unwise attitudes that I wear.

Out of worship and honor to Jesus, I must submit my life to others who desire to be like Jesus. Especially when they see things in me that are not Christlike.
Prayer
Lord Help…again! I wear too much pride sometimes - - too many times! Thank you for the awesome mentors and friends in my life who love you and desire to live a holy life before You! Please continue to help me to submit my life to them, with a holy fear and worship of You in my heart! I need You… and I need to keep submitting to these awesome men in my life!
