Going All The Way

John Tilton

Scripture

Hebrew 7:11-19

If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood—and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood—why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also. He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. For it is declared: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.

Observation

Clearly we’ve come to realize and understand that the priesthood and law of the times of the Old Testament was not meant to be the eternal means and way to draw near and commune with the Lord God. Furthermore, we read and understand that it was the new order of Jesus in the order of Melchizedek that we would find our eternal relationship with the Lord God, and that the law was what called people to accountability, but not the answer to redemption and salvation.

Application

Thus, as the word so succinctly states, it is through our acceptance, personal time, devotion and communing with Jesus that we will be in the place that God meant us to be in relationship to Him. Thus, liken personal relationship and time with Jesus, and our communing with Him is what will take us all the way to God’s intent in Him. Its like a sports fan attending a game, knowing all of the rules, tracking all of the stats, but not being in the game. One can be all around a game, but only those in the game can gain and claim victory. I want to be in the game and go all the way.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for reminding me that I need to be intentional of drawing near to you and communing with you, more so then all of the wonderful church activities that I can be involved in. It is my intentionality of time and devotion to you that really counts.
