Scripture

LUKE

[14]And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about him went out through all the surrounding country. [15]And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.

[31]And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the Sabbath, [32]and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word possessed authority.

[36]And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”

Observation

I’m caught by the emphasis of Lukes writing involving Jesus teaching in the synagogues. In Teaching the Word and speaking the Word - He had to know the Word of God. Of course He was and is the Living Word of God.

I also noticed from being anointed by power of the Spirit after the temptations, Jesus taught while He lived and lived out His faith. He instructed and demonstrated what He knew and believed. As if to suggest the importance of teaching and instruction, which seems to accompany the demonstration of the Spirit.

As it relates to flow of the text: the earlier temptations of Jesus, being full of the Spirit and led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Jesus demonstrated His victory over the enemy through God’s written and spoken words. In other words, the devils words (temptation) were overcome by God’s law and Jesus spoken words.

Application

I believe God is calling me to teach, to instruct people of faith and others to know God and His Word, through His Word. There may or WILL :) be times of “wilderness testing” that will prove and strengthen my faith in God. This seems necessary to preach the Word with devotion, discipline and delight.

I commit my heart and life to the devotions and disciplines of studying God’s Word, in order to preach and teach His Word with delight!

Prayer

Dearest Spirit of the Living God,

I exalt Jesus and thank You for Your life in me! May I ask for your anointing to study, know, grow in the Word of God - to preach and teach Your Word with authority. May Your amazing Spirit lead people to be amazed at who JESUS IS!

I pray that lives would be saved and healed for Your Kingdom! Here I am. Fill me, use me. With devotion, discipline and delight, I commit my life, time, heart to You and Your Word!
