Sex and Self Control

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 1 Corinthians 7:5

Observation

This is a risky devotion - knowing that I will post for the public eye to see. But to be honest, I love being honest no matter if I post for others to see or not. This is on my heart.

Paul is addressing sexual relationship, defining the God inspired truth of intercourse. I’ve heard it said that Sex for a man is influenced by a mass between his ears, called his brain. I’m sure our brain has much to do with physical and emotional stimulation of our sexual organs. But when it comes down to it for me - the fruit of self control is a HUGE need for me and my fellow man. I mean the MEN - the Brothers - who I believe 99% deal with issues of sexual desires, temptations, lusts, sins…

Application

Thank you Jesus for my wife! I’m so glad I’m married and what a beautiful benefit sex is! Praise the Lord! My application involves my gratefulness to God for a sensitive, unselfish wife who does not deprive. If I get to speak to wives out there - I would strongly encourage them “not to deprive…” I know some men have sexual stimulation issues, but I find in the counseling office that husbands are deprived. Who’s fault is that? Well - this sounds like a Marriage seminar :) but…. for me… I’m grateful that my communication with Beckie in ALL areas of our relationship.

So husbands… lead your wife well. Communicate in all areas. And watch it… satan desires to take you down, using areas of sexual temptations. It’s a huge area for us to be watchful of!

Prayer

Dear God All - Mighty!
Self control - is what I long for and need! In many areas of my life. My thought life, finances, my mouth, etc. Thank you for Your help in time of need - you always see me through the difficult times - even when i fall short and sin! Thank you!
