My Father, My Promise

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

Observation

Since we have these promises… What promises? Knowing these promises will enable us to living out the remainder of Paul’s instruction. The preceding verses describe not only what we do in gaining purity, but more importantly (to me) who God is and what that means in relationship to Him. The promise of God being our Father, we shall be His children. He is the Lord Almighty who will be our dwelling and walk with us! WOWZAH! This is the best promise ever!

Application

Too often I focus more on the work of living pure and undefiled - where I must discipline and make decisions to live a holy life. This is inescapably true! But knowing that God has entered a kind of relationship with me - as my FATHER, no matter what “I do or accomplish!” That He is my safety, dwelling and He will walk with me…! In HIm, holiness is complete in the fear of God.

Since I have these promises… SInce I am His beloved… I long to live a pure, undefiled life - not out of duty or a responsibility to “have to live holy or else.”

Prayer

Thank you Daddy Father! I love You and desire to please You by choosing pure thoughts. By choosing to submit my motives, intentions, evil wants… to You as my Father. Thank you for always being my Dwelling and Shelter! I want to live a holy life out of worshipful love and adoration for You!
